Notes from 6th March Highland Council

  • The review of political arrangements will go ahead on a closed shop Administration councillors only basis. A move to have the working party reflect the Council political balance was rejected;
  • Objections will be made to the proposed review of Highland constituencies, with the Council proposing a fourth seat for Inverness;
  • A move led by Caithness members to alter the policy on bilingual road signs failed narrowly;
  • Flood prevention schemes covering the River Ness up to the Islands were approved;
  • The nearby Aquadome is to be taken back into Council ownership from the arms-length company set up by the previous Inverness District Council;
  • The Council, as property owner and/or tenant, supported the introduction of a Business Improvement District in Inverness City Centre.
